Intellectual Intelligence vs Emotional Intelligence

Intellectual intelligence isn’t unfamiliar to the majority of people. In indonesia, students from kindergarten until college, they are required to have a high score, in other words - intellectual intelligence. It is through that intellectual intelligence is considered as the main key to the successful. Especially for someone who graduate form college to enter workforce. This is considered as the indicator for a company in accepting its new employees.

In fact, intelligence is not only limited to intellectual, but also emotional intelligence. This skill is rarely seen by people because it is considered to have no visible results. I agree with Marc Bracket in his article ‘Today’s Students May Be Emotionally Unprepared’ said that “emotions drive learning, creativity, decision-making, and health.’ Though this one is invisble, it has a far more important role than intellectual intelligence alone.

Emotional intelligence helps us in determining which is the right and which is the wrong, what we have to do or what we have not to do, which will have a positive impact or which will have a negative impact, and so on. Emotions bring us closer and more understand with environment around us. So that, we better know which is the best solution to solve a problem considering to the pro and cons, directly.

While today, as we now, most of people only concern on intellectual intelligence regardless of emotional intelligence. This can be seen in some cases. For example, to get a high score in school, someone can do cheating whatever it takes. When that thing happens, we indirectly instill the characters of cheating dan become an opportunists people. For years ahead, when that person has a job, it wil be very easy for him / her to take advantage of opportunities even though it brokes the norm, so that he / she can achieve what results they wanted.

The solution of these problem, it would be wise if we are not just whet intellectual intelligence, but also the emotional intelligence. We should start thinking how the process goes rather than how the result ends. And also we must begin to instill that success is not only affected by intelectual but also our ethics and morals when facing a condition. Thus, in the future, we can bring great changes and become a real human-being of our life.
